What a USP is, and why five different ones help

A unique selling proposition is the short answer to a customer’s silent question: why this, and not what I do today? Good USPs are specific to one audience and one situation. Most first drafts are vague (“quality you can trust”) or are five rewordings of the same idea. This tool writes five drafts from different angles, such as the main outcome, a specific situation, how it works or the contrast with the usual alternative, so you can see which direction is worth developing.

How to use it

  1. Describe what you sell in two or three sentences: what it is, how it works and what it costs if you know.
  2. Say who it’s for as precisely as you can.
  3. Add your strongest feature if you have one. The drafts can build on it as your claim.
  4. Press “Generate 5 USPs”. Copy the ones you like, or press “Generate 5 new ones” for a different set.

What you get

Example

For “mobile car detailing in office parking lots” aimed at office workers, one angle is time (“Your car gets detailed while you work”), another is the contrast with today (“No weekend trip to the car wash”), another is the situation (“Leave work to a clean car”). An illustrative example, not tool output: real results depend on what you write.

How to choose and check a USP

Pick two or three that feel most specific, then let customers choose. Ask a few people in your audience which one makes them most want to know more, and why. Or run two headlines as a small ad or landing-page test. You can also compare up to five versions of your message on a simulated audience with a full SellTo.us test.

Limits

The drafts only know what you wrote. They aren’t market research, they don’t check competitors or prove any claim, and they can miss what really makes you different. They never include superiority claims, awards, results or statistics, because the tool can’t verify them.

Frequently asked questions

Is the USP Generator free?

Yes. No card needed. 5 uses a day across all free tools without an account, 15 a day with a free account. Each “Generate 5 new ones” counts as one use.

What is a unique selling proposition?

A short statement of why your product or service is the better choice for a specific customer: what they get, and why it’s different from what they use today.

Can I publish these USPs as they are?

Treat them as drafts. Only use a claim you can back up, and check which one resonates with real customers before you rely on it.

Why doesn’t it say “the best” or “#1”?

Because it can’t know that. The tool never invents superiority, awards, ratings, results or statistics. If you have a real differentiator, add it and the drafts can build on it as your claim.

Is my description saved?

No. It’s sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to write the drafts and isn’t stored by SellTo.us. See the Privacy Policy.
